# Book a will-call trip

> For a rider who calls when they're ready, like after a doctor's visit. Book it with a best-guess time, then mark them ready when they call.

A will-call is a ride with no set pickup time. It's usually the ride home, when no one knows how long the visit will take. The time on it is only a guess until the rider calls.

## Book it

1. Book the trip as usual in **Plan a new trip**, and select **Round trip** to add the ride home. See [Book a trip](/knowledge-base/trips/book-a-trip/).

2. On the ride home, turn on **Will-call**. Type your best guess in **Pickup time**. It helps you plan, and no one is promised that time.

3. Select **Create trip**. In "Trip created.", the ride home says **Will-call** instead of a pickup time.

On **Dispatch**, the guessed time shows with a ~ in front, like ~2:30 PM. You can give the trip to a driver ahead of time. Their app shows it as waiting on the passenger, and they can't start it yet.

## When the rider calls

1. On **Dispatch**, find the trip and select **Passenger is ready**. It's on the trip's card under **Unassigned**, or in the trip's menu once a driver has it.

2. Pick **Now** to send the driver right away. If the rider wants a set time, pick **Later today** and type it.

3. Select **Pick up now**, or **Pick up at** with the time you typed. You'll see the time the driver has to be there by.

If the rider calls the driver instead, the driver can tap **Passenger is ready** in their app.

## Good to know

- **The driver has 60 minutes to get there,** counted from when you mark the rider ready, or until the time they asked for if that's later. To change it, go to **Settings** › **Ryder Go (AI)** and find **Will-call pickups**. See [Ryder Go settings](/knowledge-base/dispatch/ryder-go-settings/).
- **Ready riders go first.** A rider who called and has no driver yet moves to the top of **Unassigned**, and **Dispatch** in the menu on the left shows a count. Give that trip to a driver right away.
- **Ryder Go waits for the call.** It plans a will-call only after the rider is marked ready.
- **It works on the trip's day only.** **Passenger is ready** shows only on the day the trip is booked for.

## If something looks wrong

| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| There's no **Passenger is ready** | Check that **Dispatch** shows the trip's own day. Once a rider is marked ready, the button goes away. |
| "That time has already passed. Pick a later time, or Now." | You picked **Later today** with a time that has passed. Type a later time, or pick **Now**. |
| The driver can't start the trip | The rider isn't marked ready yet. Select **Passenger is ready** on Dispatch, or ask the driver to tap it in their app. |
